And we're off!!

JCC Theaterworks and the JCC New Haven kicked off the live portion of the 2014 Jewish Playwriting Contest in style Sunday night, and crowned the first of 4 winners!

Three amazing new plays faced off:
  • G-d's Honest Truth by Renée Calarco (Washington, DC)
  • A Jew's Uncle's Camel by Stan Kaplan (Ukiah, CA)
  • Jew Kamp by Stephanie Swirsky (New York, NY)
all read by this stellar cast: David Deblinger, Michael Braun, Nic Grelli, Grant Harrison, Mara Kassin, Dori Legg, and Andrea Syglowski.
We were thrilled to have both Renee and Stephanie in attendance, along with 65 other passionate theater fans.

The race was tight (a margin of just 2 votes!), but in the end, Renee Calarco's G-d's Honest Truth took the night.

Based on the true story of a rabbi who sells fake Holocaust Torahs, Renee's play really asks the question, "What stories define us? And who gets to choose which stories we tell?"

Mazel tov to Stephanie and Stan, and Yasher Koach to Renee!

The jpp is changing the face of jewish theater with a cutting-edge, community-connected model that makes the field more viable and valuable. But we can’t do it without you.
The OPEN Festival needs to raise $20,000 to rock New York again, and we’ve got a donor ready to give half of that, IF we can raise the other half by May.

Do your part right now by making a tax-deductible contribution through Razoo. If you are in New York, your gift gets you tickets and access to the artists!!
