Announcing the Winner of
the 2016 Jewish Playwriting Contest!!!
Selected by the combined voices of over 500 people in 9 cities...
By Helen Pafumi
2016 was the biggest year in the Contest yet, and we learned a ton.
- In all 5 years, no city has ever chosen the same 3 plays.
Each city and region is unique, and the work that resonates in each place is different. We're psyched that we can bring a variety of work to match each taste.
- Voting gets people really invested.
Every audience member feels personally connected to the work for which they advocate. Themes resonate personally and deeply, changing people's views of what Jewish theater can be.
- Today's young artists are telling surprising stories.
From Chabadniks talking sex to G-d making bad jokes to Canadian Jewish gangsters, the plays the JPP champions challenge our notions of what kind of Jews should be onstage.
And we are even more proud to share that 2 plays in the Contest ("Redder Blood" and "To the Orchard") will receive their World Premiere Productions this summer!
